Howard County
Howard County is located in northern central Indiana, bordered on the north by Cass and Miami counties, to the east by Grant County, to the south by Tipton County, to the southwest by Clinton County, and to the west by Carroll County.
It has an area of 293 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 84,964 residents.
Kokomo (2000 Census population of 46,113) is both the largest city in Howard County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include Greentown (2,546) and Russiaville (1,092).
The county was named for Tilghman Howard, whose career involved him in the military and politics. The county was originally named Richardville County, in honor of the Jean Baptiste Richardville, a Miami Indian chief.
Notable natives include the actor Strother Martin, Edward Jackson, the 32nd Governor of Indiana, and John Kern, US Senator and Vice-Presidential Candidate.
