Boone County

Boone County is located in central Indiana, bordered on the north by Clinton County, to the east by Hamilton County, to the southeast by Marion County, to the south by Hendricks County, and to the west by Montgomery County.

It has an area of 423 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 38,147 residents.

Lebanon (2000 Census population of 14,222) is both the largest city in Boone County and the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include Zionsville (8,775), Thorntown (1,562), Jamestown (886), Advance (562), Whitestown (471), and Ulen (123).

The county was named for Daniel Boone.

Notables natives include designer Norman Norell and former Indiana University President Herman Wells.
