Allen County
Allen County is located in Northeast Indiana. It is bordered on the north by Noble and DeKalb counties, to the east by Ohio, to the south by Adams and Wells counties, and to the west by Whitley and Huntington counties.
It has an area of 657 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 331,849 residents.
Fort Wayne (2000 Census population of 205,727) is both the largest city in Allen County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include New Haven (12,406), Huntertown (1,771), Woodburn (1,579), Monroeville (1,236), and Grabill (1,113).
The county was named for John Allen, a local military leader in the War of 1812.
Notable natives include fashion designer Bill Blass, and actresses Carol Lombard and Shelley Long.
