Birthplace: Attica, Indiana [Fountain County]
Died: May 5, 1968

George D. Hay created the Grand Ole Opry while working as a radio announcer on radio station WSM in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born the son of a jeweler in Attica and worked as a newspaperman before entering radio around 1923. He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1968.
