Outdoors: Summit Lake State Park

Summit Lake Click to Enlarge Introduction Summit Lake State Park is in Henry County. The principal feature is 800 acre Summit Lake, created by damming the Big Blue River. Most visitors are interested in boating, fishing, swimming, or sunbathing. There is an entrance fee. Trails Three trails offer opportunities to explore parts of the nearly 1,800 acres that aren’t underwater. The mix of habitats, with deep water, shoreline, fields, scrubby areas and woods means that many different species can find a suitable place to live; birding is often very good. The woods just to the east of the beach house are recent but host a variety of spring wildflowers. Trail 2 begins and ends in the campground area, mostly winding along inlets on the west end of the lake. Facilities Camping, pit toilets, bathhouse in season. Directions View Larger Map Henry County.
