Outdoors: Stoutsburg Savanna Nature Preserve

Grassland Click to Enlarge Introduction Stoutsburg Savanna Nature Preserve is a large oak savanna tract encompassing several smaller open areas dominated by prairie vegetation. The east-central portion of the property contains a large stand of impressive prairie grasses standing at least eight feet high. Grasses in areas closer to 1100 North are less exuberant, but the simultaneous presence of plants like rattlesnake master, blazing star, compass plant, and prairie dock make up for it. Standing water can pool for days after a good rain. Trails There aren't really any trails, but a dirt lane leads from the gate and soon connects with other lanes that allow access to the interior.
