Outdoors: Seven Pillars of the Mississinewa Nature Preserve

Pillars Click to Enlarge Introduction Seven Pillars of the Mississinewa Nature Preserve offers a woodland walk and ready access to a vantage point affording views of unusual geological formations. It's a pleasant-enough walk in the woods, but the best reason for being in the neighborhood is to view the nearby geological formations (top, left) on the Mississinewa River. In days past, Native Americans used the alcoves formed between columns for council meetings. There is a viewing area along the river, at the intersection of Mississinewa Road and 400 East, about a half mile past the preserve parking lot. Trails The preserve trail starts at the parking lot and parallels a small tree-lined creek before veering off, climbing a hill, and continuing further into the woods. The path passes through a small evergreen plantation about a half mile in before looping back toward the entrance. Facilities None. Directions View Larger Map Miami County.
