Introduction
Miller Woods is immediately adjacent to, and passes very close to, the Douglas Environmental Education Center (groups only) in a relatively nice part of Gary.
Expect to see lots of black oak overhead; the understory is thick with bracken.
Trails
The easy, well-marked, sandy trail consists of two joined loops that offer 0.5 and 0.9 mile options through open dune oak savanna and passing by and through wetland areas.
I recommend hiking the whole thing as a figure eight; that way you can cross the boardwalk shortcut twice and enjoy views of the adjacent pond and wetlands.
Facilities
None.
