Introduction
Mengerson Nature Preserve features trails through a partially-wooded parcel set in a densely populated area. The parking area is just a little grassy strip between two houses on Stellhorn; at first glance, it looks like an overgrown vacant lot.
Trails
Pick up a trail map from the registry box and head north, crossing a small stream. The northern end of the preserve is wooded. Despite a fair amount of free-form trailblazing, there is a respectable display of spring wildflowers here.
Species include May apple, green dragon, bloodroot, jack-in-the-pulpit, prairie trillium, and Solomon's seal, though few ferns are in evidence. Mud can be a problem, as can mosquitoes.
Facilities
None.
