Outdoors: Lincoln State Park Lincoln State Park
Lincoln State Park is located in Spencer County, very near Lincoln City in southern Indiana. Lincoln State Park was established in 1932, and is one of the oldest State Parks in Indiana. The park has an area of about 1,750 acres. Its principal physiographic feature is Lake Lincoln, an artificial lake created by damming several small streams.Lincoln State Park is highly developed. There are numerous campgrounds, shelter houses, picnic and play areas. Lake Lincoln has a swimming beach, bath house, fishing pier and boat rental. There is also a nature center and a 1,500 seat amphitheatre with summer performances of the play "Young Abe Lincoln". The park is well covered by a system of trails, ranging in length from one to nearly four miles. Trail 1 (1.5 "easy" miles) loops most of Lake Lincoln, while Trail 2 (2.1 moderate miles) explores the northeastern part of the park. Trail 3 (1.7 moderate miles) passes through the Sarah Lincoln's Woods Nature Preserve, in the southern part of the park. Trail 4 (3.7 moderate miles) loops around the smaller Lake Weber before heading west to the historic Gentry homesite, friends and neighbors of the Lincolns. Trail 5 (1 easy mile) takes hikers to the Gorden Home and Mill sites, as well as the historic Little Pigeon Primitive Baptist Church and the gravesite of Sarah Grigsby Lincoln, Abe's only sister. Yet another trail connects the park with the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, just north of IN 162. Lincoln State Park is a busy place with lots to see and do.
