Outdoors: Hammer Nature Preserve

Footbridge Click to Enlarge Path Click to Enlarge Introduction Hammer Nature Preserve is a forty acre preserve that features a half-mile loop trail through mature woods. Spring brings forth an excellent wildflower display; prairie trillium, Dutchman’s breeches, squirrel corn, jack-in-the-pulpit and large white trillium all add to the riot of color. Trails The trail is well-defined and marked with white discs. With luck, you should also find a brochure that includes brief descriptions of sixteen marked tree species. You’ll encounter occasional damp areas along the trail, and it will repeatedly cross an intermittent stream over small wooden footbridges. Facilities None. Directions View Larger Map Wells County.
