Introduction

Clegg Gardens is a little-known destination with several well-maintained trails that explore ravines and stream banks adjacent to Wildcat Creek.

Though many of the trees sport labels, it isn’t really an artificial garden; most of the plants appear to have sprung up naturally. Habitats include deep woods, oak savanna, and gravel hill prairie, the latter quite rare in Indiana.

Expect to see numerous wildflowers, birds, scenic views of Wildcat Creek, and lots of stairs and steep paths, some of gravel. A busy curving road separates the gardens from the parking area – be careful when crossing. Admission is free; hours are 10-sunset daily.
