Introduction
Burnett Woods Nature Preserve protects sixty-eight wooded acres in a rapidly developing part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Noise from the nearby road, railroad yard, and airport is sometimes annoying, but the woods themselves will only improve with time.
Trails
A lollipop trail of just over a mile begins near the southwest corner of the property; orange posts periodically mark its tread. Spring wildflowers are abundant; false Solomon’s seal is very thick near the entrance, and May apple, prairie trillium, bloodroot, trout lily, and ginger are common throughout.
Small footbridges span wetter areas, including a seasonal stream. Pawpaw seems especially common, and larger trees include maple, oak, hickory and beech.
Facilities
None.
