Introduction

Beechwood Nature Preserve is an ACRES Land Trust property in north-central Steuben County, adjacent to Pokagon State Park.

Trails

Beechwood’s elaborate trail network is like a figure 8 on its side, with a long connector to the parking area and spurs to Pokagon State Park and two adjacent, smaller preserves.

The spur to Foster Nature Preserve is close to the parking area and passes through interesting wetland areas before ending up near Little Otter Lake.

The main trail traverses several habitat types, including woods, recent fields, and wetlands. There’s also a section of boardwalk (second image, left) and a short wetland loop.

The connector to Pokagon State Park is at the far western edge of the preserve. Plan to take your time and mind your surroundings - I've never been able to complete a visit without finding myself completely turned around.

Facilities

None.
