Introduction

Barker Woods occupies about thirty acres in Michigan City. It is home to several species that are threatened or endangered in Indiana. However, drainage related to nearby development may have lowered the water table and dried out formerly wet areas, adversely affecting the species mix.

Trails

A loop trail passes through a mature woods of pin oak and maple. After parking just inside (but not blocking) the gate, look for a mowed path that leads west-northwest. Soon the trail veers to the north. The trail skirts the perimeter of the property, sometimes a bit too close to houses that crowd the fence, and then reemerges near the parking area.

Facilities

None.
