Wells County is located in northeastern Indiana, bordered on the north by Allen County, to the east by Adams County, to the south by Blackford and Jay counties, to the southwest by Grant County, and to the west by Huntington County.
It has an area of 370 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 27,600 residents.
Bluffton (2000 Census population of 9,536) is both the largest city in Wells County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include Ossian (2,943), Markle (1,102), Zanesville (602), Uniondale (277), and Poneto (240).
The county was named for William Wells, who was captured by Indians as a child and become the son-in-law of Chief Little Turtle, fighting on the side of the Indians until serving under General "Mad Anthony" Wayne..
