county location Area: 370 square miles

Location: Northeastern Indiana, bordered on the north by Allen County, to the east by Adams County, to the south by Blackford and Jay counties, to the southwest by Grant County, and to the west by Huntington County.

Population: 27,600 (2000 Census)

Cities & Towns: Bluffton (county seat, 9,536, 75th largest city in the State); Ossian (2,943), Markle (1,102), Zanesville (602), Uniondale (277), Poneto (240)

Named For: William Wells, who was captured by Indians as a child and become the son-in-law of Chief Little Turtle, fighting on the side of the Indians until serving under General "Mad Anthony" Wayne.
