    Counties: Wabash County Indiana


Wabash County is located in north central Indiana, bordered on the north by Kosciusko County, to the northeast by Whitley County, to the east by Huntington County, to the south by Grant County, and to the west by Miami County.

It has an area of 413 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 34,960 residents.

Wabash (2000 Census population of 11,743) is both the largest city in Wabash County and the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include North Manchester (6,260), South Haven (5,619), La Fontaine (900), Lagro (454), Roann (400).

The county was named for the Wabash River.

Notable natives include Thomas Riley Marshall, former Vice President of the United States (born 1854 in North Manchester) and author Gene Stratton Porter, born 1868 in rural Wabash County.
