Location: Western Indiana, bordered on the north by Vermillion and Parke counties, to the east by Clay County, to the south by Sullivan County, and to the west by Illinois.

Population: 105,848 (2000 Census)

Cities & Towns: Terre Haute (county seat, 59,614, 10th largest city in the State); West Terre Haute (2,330), Seelyville (1,182)

Named For: Francis Vigo, who played an important role in the area during and after the Revolutionary War.
