    Counties: Vermillion County Indiana


Vermillion County is located in western Indiana, bordered on the north by Warren County, to the east by Fountain and Parke counties, to the south by Vigo County, and to the west by Illinois.

It has an area of 257 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 16,788 residents.

Clinton (2000 Census population of 5,126) is the largest city in Vermillion County; Newport (578) is the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include Fairview Park (1,496), Cayuga (1,109), Dana (662), Perrysville (502), and Universal (419).

The county was named for the Big Vermillion River, which passes through the county.

Notable natives include journalist Ernie Pyle.
