Tipton County is located in central Indiana, bordered on the north by Howard County, to the northeast by Grant County, to the east by Madison County, to the south by Hamilton County, and to the west by Clinton County.
It has an area of 260 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 16,577 residents.
Tipton (2000 Census population of 5,251) is both the largest city in Tipton County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include Windfall (712), Sharpsville (618), and Kempton (380).
The county was named for U.S. Senator John Tipton, who represented Indiana during most of the 1830s.
