Location: Northwestern Indiana, bordered on the north by White County, to the northeast by Carroll County, to the east by Clinton County, to the south by Montgomery County, and to the west by Benton, Fountain, and Warren counties. Population: 148,955 (2000 Census) Cities & Towns: Lafayette (county seat, 56,397, 11th largest city in the State); West Lafayette (28,778), Shadeland (1,682), Battle Ground (1,323), Dayton (1,120), Clarks Hill (680) Named For: the Tippecanoe River and the Battle of Tippecanoe. Topography: Much of Tippecanoe County is fairly level. The county is drained by the Wabash River, which enters the northeastern part of the county and exits to the southwest. At one time prairie covered much of the northwestern and central parts of the county; most of the rest was deciduous forest.
