Starke County is located in northern Indiana, bordered on the north and west by La Porte County, to the northeast by St. Joseph County, to the east by Marshall County, to the south by Pulaski County, and to the west by Jasper County.
It has an area of 309 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 23,556 residents.
Knox (2000 Census population of 3,721) is both the largest city in Starke County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include North Judson (1,675), Koontz Lake (1,554), Bass Lake (1,249), Hamlet (820), and San Pierre (156).
The county was named for John Starke, a hero of the Revolutionary War..
Notable natives include Henry Schricker, the 36th and 38th Governor of Indiana.
