    Counties: Spencer County Indiana


Spencer County is located in southern Indiana, bordered on the north by Dubois County, to the east by Perry County, to the south by Kentucky, and to the west by Warrick County.

It has an area of 399 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 20,391 residents.

Rockport (2000 Census population of 2,160) is both the largest city in Spencer County and the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include Santa Claus (2,041), Dale (1,568), Grandview (696), Chrisney (544), and Gentryville (262).

The county was named for Captain Spier Spencer, a southern Indiana sheriff who died at the Battle of Tippecanoe.

Notable natives include actress Florence Henderson.
