    Counties: Putnam County Indiana


Putnam County is located in western Indiana, bordered on the north by Montgomery County, to the east by Hendricks County, to the southeast by Morgan County, to the south by Owen County, to the southwest by Clay County, and to the west by Parke County.

It has an area of 480 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 17,241 residents.

Greencastle (2000 Census population of 9,880) is both the largest city in Putnam County and the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include Cloverdale (2,243), Roachdale (975), Bainbridge (743), Fillmore (545), and Russellville (340).

The county was named for General Israel Putnam, Revolutionary War hero.
