    Counties: Pike County Indiana


Pike County is located in southwestern Indiana, bordered on the north by Daviess and Knox counties, to the east by Dubois County, to the south by Warrick County, and to the west by Gibson County.

It has an area of 336 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 12,837 residents.

Petersburg (2000 Census population of 2,570) is both the largest city in Pike County and the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include Winslow (881) and Spurgeon (227).

The county was named for Zebulon Pike, hero of the War of 1812 and discoverer of Pike's Peak.

Notable natives include former U. S. Senator Vance Hartke.
