Parke County is located in western Indiana, bordered on the north by Fountain County, to the northeast by Montgomery County, to the east by Putnam County, to the south by Clay and Vigo counties, and to the west by Vermillion County.
It has an area of 445 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 17,241 residents.
Rockville (2000 Census population of 2,765) is both the largest city in Parke County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include Montezuma (1,179), Rosedale (750), Marshall (360), Mecca (355), and Bloomingdale (319).
The county was named for Benjamin Parke, who served Indiana as a judge and congressman.
Notable natives include baseball Hall-of-Famer Mordecai Brown.
