Newton County is located in northwestern Indiana, bordered on the north by Lake County, to the east by Jasper County, to the south by Benton County, and to the west by Illinois.
It has an area of 402 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 14,566 residents.
Roselawn (2000 Census population of 3,933) is the largest city in Newton County; Kentland (1,822) is the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include Morocco (1,127), Goodland (1,096), Brook (1,062), and Lake Village (855).
The county was named for Sargeant John Newton, a hero of the Revolutionary War.
Notable natives include writer George Ade and Warren McCray, Indiana's 30th Governor.
