    Counties: Morgan County Indiana


Morgan County is located in central Indiana, bordered on the north by Hendricks County, to the northeast by Marion County, to the east by Johnson County, to the southeast by Brown County, to the south by Monroe County, and to the west by Owen and Putnam counties.

It has an area of 406 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 66,689 residents.

Martinsville (2000 Census population of 11,698) is both the largest city in Morgan County and the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include Mooresville (9,273), Brooklyn (1,545), Morgantown (964), Paragon (663), Monrovia (628), and Bethany (94).

The county was named for Revolutionary War General Daniel Morgan.

Notable natives include basketball player and coach John Wooden, baseball player Amos Rusie, and Emmett Branch, the 30th Governor of Indiana.
