county location Madison County is in the east-central part of Indiana. It has a population of 130,669 (1990 Census) and a land area of approximately 452 square miles. Anderson (59,459) is the county seat. Other cities in Madison County include Elwood (9,494), Alexandria (5,709), Chesterfield (2,730), Pendleton (2,309), Lapel (1,742), Frankton (1,736) and Summitville (1,010). The West Fork of the White River cuts the county approximately in half. Other major watercourses in Madison County include Big Killbuck Creek, Pipe Creek, Duck Creek, Fall Creek, and Lick Creek.
