    Counties: Knox County Indiana


Knox County is located in southwestern Indiana, bordered on the north by Greene and Sullivan counties, to the east by Daviess County, to the south by Gibson and Pike counties, and to the west by Illinois.

It has an area of 516 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 39,256 residents.

Vincennes (2000 Census population of 18,701) is both the largest city in Knox County and the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include Bicknell (3,378), Oaktown (633), Monroe City (548), Wheatland (504), Bruceville (469), Sandborn (451), and Edwardsport (363).

The county was named for General Henry Knox, who fought in the Revolutionary War and later served as Secretary of War.

Notable natives include comedian Richard "Red" Skelton and actor Buck Jones.
