Johnson County is located in central Indiana, bordered on the north by Marion County, to the east by Shelby County, to the south by Brown and Bartholomew counties, and to the west by Morgan County.
It has an area of 315 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 115,209 residents.
Greenwood (2000 Census population of 36,037) is the largest city in Johnson County; Franklin (19,463) is the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include New Whiteland (4,579), Edinburgh (4,505), Whiteland (3,958), Bargersville (2,120), Princes Lakes (1,506), and Trafalgar (798).
The county was named for Indiana Supreme Court Justice John Johnson.
Notable natives include basketball player and coach Steve Alford, artist William Merritt Chase, and Paul McNutt and Roger Branigin, the 34th and 42nd Governors of Indiana, respectively.
