    Counties: Jennings County Indiana


Jennings County is located in southeastern Indiana, bordered on the north by Decatur County, to the east by Ripley County, to the south by Jefferson and Scott counties, to the west by Jackson County, and to the northwest by Bartholomew County.

It has an area of 377 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 27,554 residents.

North Vernon (2000 Census population of 6,515) is the largest city in Jennings County; Vernon (330) is the County Seat.

The county was named for Jonathan Jennings, first Governor of the State of Indiana.

Notable natives include Edgar Whitcomb, 43rd Governor of Indiana.
