Jasper County is located in northwestern Indiana, bordered on the northwest by Lake County, on the north by Porter County, to the east by Pulaski and Starke counties, to the southeast by White County, to the south by Benton County, and to the west by Newton County.
It has an area of 560 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 30,043 residents.
Rensselaer (2000 Census population of 5,294) is both the largest city in Jasper County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include De Motte (3,234), Remington (1,323), Collegeville (865), and Wheatfield (772).
The county was named for Revolutionary War hero William Jasper.
Notable natives include former U.S. House Majority Leader Charles Halleck.
