    Counties: Jackson County Indiana


Jackson County is located in southern Indiana, bordered on the north by Bartholomew and Brown counties, to the east by Jennings County, to the south by Scott and Washington counties, and to the west by Lawrence and Monroe counties.

It has an area of 509 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 41,335 residents.

Seymour (2000 Census population of 18,101) is the largest city in Jackson County; Brownstown (2,978) is the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include Crothersville (1,570) and Medora (565).

The county was named for Andrew Jackson, hero of the War of 1812 and 7th President of the United States.

Notable natives include singer John Mellencamp.
