    Counties: Greene County Indiana


Greene County is located in southwestern Indiana, bordered on the north by Clay and Owen counties, to the east by Lawrence and Monroe counties, to the south by Daviess, Knox, and Martin counties, and to the west by Sullivan County.

It has an area of 542 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 33,157 residents.

Linton (2000 Census population of 5,774) is the largest city in Greene County; Bloomfield (2,542) is the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include Jasonville (2,490), Worthington (1,481), Lyons (748), Switz City (311), and Newberry (206).

The county was named for Revolutionary War hero Nathaniel Greene.

Notable natives include big band leader Phil Harris and writer Lee Burns.
