    Counties: Gibson County Indiana


Gibson County is located in southwestern Indiana, bordered on the north by Knox County, to the east by Pike County, to the southeast by Warrick County, to the south by Posey and Vanderburgh counties, and to the west by Illinois.

It has an area of 489 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 32,500 residents.

Princeton (2000 Census population of 8,175) is both the largest city in Gibson County and the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include Oakland City (2,588), Fort Branch (2,320), Haubstadt (1,529), Owensville (1,322), Patoka (749), Francisco (543), and Somerville (312).

The county was named for General John Gibson, Secretary of the Indiana Territory.

Notable natives include baseball player Gil Hodges.
