    Counties: Floyd County Indiana


Floyd County is located in southern Indiana, bordered on the north by Clark and Washington counties, to the east by Clark County, to the south by Kentucky, and to the west by Harrison County.

It has an area of 148 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 70,823 residents.

New Albany (2000 Census population of 37,603) is both the largest city in Floyd County and the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include Galena (1,831).

The county was perhaps named for Davis Floyd, an influential local figure. He spent time in jail time as a co-conspirator of Aaron Burr's, but subsequently served as a county judge.

Notable natives include Supreme Court Justice Sherman Minton and professional golfer Fuzzy Zoeller.
