Dubois County is located in southwestern Indiana, bordered on the north by Daviess and Martin counties, to the east by Crawford and Orange counties, to the southeast by Perry County, to the south by Spencer County, to the southwest by Warrick County, and to the west by Pike County.
It has an area of 430 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 39,674 residents.
Jasper (2000 Census population of 12,100) is both the largest city in Dubois County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include Huntingburg (5,598), Ferdinand (2,277), Holland (695), and Birdseye (465).
The county was named for Toussaint Dubois, a Vincennes businessman important in the early history of the area.
