Decatur County is located in southeastern Indiana, bordered on the northwest by Shelby County, to the north by Rush County, to the east by Franklin County, to the southeast by Ripley County, to the south by Jennings County, and to the west by Bartholomew County.
It has an area of 373 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 24,555 residents.
Greensburg (2000 Census population of 10,260) is both the largest city in Decatur County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include Westport (1,515), Newpoint (290), and Millhousen (136).
The county was named for Naval hero Stephen Decatur.
Notable natives include racing promoter Carl Fisher.
