    Counties: Daviess County Indiana


Daviess County is located in southwestern Indiana, bordered on the north by Greene County, to the east by Martin County, to the south by Dubois and Pike counties, and to the west by Knox County.

It has an area of 431 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 29,820 residents.

Washington (2000 Census population of 11,380) is both the largest city in Daviess County and the County Seat.

Other cities and towns include Odon (1,376), Elnora (721), Plainville (513), Montgomery (368), Cannelburg (140), and Alfordsville (112).

The county was named for Captain Joseph Daviess, killed at the Battle of Tippecanoe.
