Location: Central Indiana, bordered on the north by Clinton County, to the east by Hamilton County, to the southeast by Marion County, to the south by Hendricks County, and to the west by Montgomery County. Population: 38,147 (2000 Census)
Cities & Towns: Lebanon, county seat, 14,222, (55th largest city in the State); Zionsville (8,775), Thorntown (1,562), Jamestown (886), Advance (562), Whitestown (471), Ulen (123) Named For: Daniel Boone Topography: Generally level to gently sloping. Eagle Creek runs south along the eastern end of the county, joining Little Eagle Creek just north of Zionsville. Sugar Creek and its tributaries drain much of the northern and central portions of the county, while Big Raccoon Creek and the North Fork of Big Walnut Creek drain the southwestern portion of the county. Attractions: Golf Courses Notable Natives: Designer Norman Norell was born in Zionsville. Economy: The county is largely agricultural. Light manufacturing occurs in several communities, most notably Lebanon, where easy access to Interstate 65 has facilitated economic development. |
