Bartholomew County is located in south central Indiana, bordered on the north by Johnson and Shelby Counties, to the east by Decatur and Jennings Counties, to the south by Jackson County, and to the west by Brown County.
It has an area of 402 square miles and during the 2000 Census had 71,435 residents.
Columbus (2000 Census population of 39,059) is both the largest city in Bartholomew County and the County Seat.
Other cities and towns include Hope (2,140).
The county was named for General Joseph Bartholomew, who fought at the Battle of Tippecanoe.
