Location: Allen County is located in Northeast Indiana. It is bordered on the north by Noble and DeKalb counties, to the east by Ohio, to the south by Adams and Wells counties, and to the west by Whitley and Huntington counties. Population: 331,849 (2000 Census). Cities & Towns: Fort Wayne, (county seat, 2000 Census population of 205,727 - 2nd largest city in the State); New Haven (12,406), Huntertown (1,771), Woodburn (1,579), Monroeville (1,236), Grabill (1,113) Named For: John Allen, local military leader in 1812. Topography: Level to gently rolling. Most of the county drains into the Maumee River, and thence to Lake Erie. The original vegetative cover in the county was deciduous forest.
