Shelbyville

Shelbyville (2000 Population = 17,951) is the seat of Shelby County. It is located in central Indiana, approximately 30 miles southeast of Indianapolis. The city was platted in 1822 and a post office was established in 1824. During much of its earlier history, the city was a center of furniture manufacturing. The furniture makers are gone, but now other industries play a major role in the local economy.
