Milan Indiana

Milan Indiana (2000 population = 1,816) lies in southern Franklin Township, in Ripley County. It is just south of the intersection of Indiana highways 101 and 350. The town was laid out in November 1836, with a post office opening the following year. Milan is best known as the home of the 1954 Indiana State Boys Basketball champions. The 1954 team won the State Championship 32-30 over Muncie Central on a Bobby Plump jump shot with three seconds remaining in the game. The team and its magical season were the basis of the film "Hoosiers".
