Cities: Kentland Kentland Kentland Indiana (2000 population = 1,822) is the seat of Newton County. Kentland is located in Jefferson Township, in the far southwestern corner of the county. The Logansport & Peoria Railroad was built through the area in 1859, though the town was not platted until April 1860, the same year it was selected as the county seat. Kentland lies at the intersection of US 41/52 and US 24; it is also a railroad junction, with lines radiating to the East, West, North and South. The city is the birthplace of two notable Hoosiers. Author and playwright George Ade was born in Kentland in 1866, and Warren McCray, Indiana's 30th Governor, was born nearby in 1865. |
