Cities: Holton Holton Holton Indiana (2000 population = 407) is located in Otter Creek Township, western Ripley County. Holton was platted in June 1854, just before the arrival of the Ohio & Mississippi Railroad in July 1854. According to Ripley County History 1818-1988, the town experienced major fires in 1860 and 1884. The History also describes a passenger pigeon flock that settled in Holton for about 30 days in 1860. People came from miles around to kill pigeons, which were sold for 25 cents a dozen and shipped to market. Today Holton is an elongated cluster of homes along the north side of US Highway 50 between Versailles and North Vernon.
