Frankfort

Frankfort Indiana (2000 population = 16,662) is the seat of, and largest city in, Clinton County. The first 55 lots in town were sold on 12 July 1830, but it wasn't until the first railroad train pulled into town on 14 October 1870 that the city began to grow rapidly. At one time as many as eight railroad lines radiated from the city. Frankfort is served by numerous highways, including Indiana highways 28, 38, 39, 75, and US Highway 421. Manufacturing is important, particularly along Indiana 28 on the west side of town.
