Earl Park

Earl Park Indiana (2000 population = 485) lies in northwestern Benton County, in Richland Township. The town was laid out in 1872 by Adams Earl and his wife, and A.D. Raub. Combined US Highways 41 and 52 pass just north of town. There's not a whole lot going on in Earl Park these days - the remaining commercial buildings are largely unused - but the town was once a popular destination. During the years immediately after the First World War, a local movie theater elected to show movies on Sunday nights, even though this was a violation of State law. The case wound its way through the court system, and the theater eventually won in 1922. However, with the court victory came competition, and Earl Park's status as a Sunday night hot spot faded into history.
